Ghost 2 Immobiliser Problems
Designed to protect vehicles from key cloning and hacking the Ghost 2 immobiliser is a discrete device that can be fitted without causing damage to your car. It prevents you from starting your car unless you have entered the correct sequence of keys in your vehicle. This is similar to a mobile password.
Stop/Start
Ghost immobilisers prevent vehicles from being stolen by stopping the engine from starting until it is issued the correct PIN code. This is accomplished without any modification to the vehicle and is completely undetectable to thieves. The unit communicates directly with the ECU through the CAN databus in order to disable the vehicle. This system is very similar to the one that car manufacturers have been using in their cars for many years however, the criminal isn't able to add a key or use key relay technology to bypass it as they can with factory fitted systems.
Ghost is compatible with any vehicle that has an engine, including cars, vans, motorhomes and caravans as well as bikes. The same system is compatible with electric cars. It is an excellent alternative to steering wheel locks and wheel clamps that can be installed with a minimum of effort.
When the Ghost is activated, it will stop all buttons in your car, preventing the ignition from being started without a PIN number. This can be done via the Android or Apple mobile app or by manually entering the code using your key fob. If a code that is incorrectly entered, the app will display an indicator light and the Ghost will not allow the vehicle to be started again. This is a great method to deter thieves. If the vehicle is unable to be started and they are unable to get it started, they will leave.
The Ghost is a weatherproof, small device that is able to be hidden behind the most difficult-to-access parts of your vehicle. The installation process takes between 20 and 30 minutes for each vehicle. It is also very simple to remove should you choose to switch your vehicle or return it for service or valet parking. It is an TASSA (Tracking and Aftermarket Security Systems Association) insurance-approved system, which is recognized by a few insurance companies. It also comes with a secure emergency Pin Code override and features a Service/Valet Mode that can be activated with an app button or using your key fob.
Disarm
Ghost immobilisers, unlike mechanical devices to prevent theft that can be removed, are concealed in the car. Even if they were discovered and stolen, thieves would not be able to start the vehicle. They are almost impossible to hack or bypass. This is because a ghost immobiliser blocks key hacking, signal jamming and device spoofing - techniques that are commonly used by thieves to get into vehicles with standard immobilisers.
An immobiliser works by sending an electronic code to the ECU (electronic control unit). If a wrong code is received, the vehicle cannot be launched as the engine will not start up. While it is possible to disable the ghost immobiliser using a software tool this would be very laborious and time-consuming. Only an authorised installer can install and use the software.
The Ghost immobiliser is a tiny device that is part of the vehicles wiring loom and is not visible to the naked eye after it has been installed. It does not appear on diagnostic systems. There are no LED indicators and it doesn't communicate with the engine through the OBD port. It communicates silently through the CAN data circuit.
The system will prevent the vehicle from starting until it is able to receive a user-defined PIN code sequence. This is entered through buttons on the steering wheel or door panels, or on the centre console. This is a much safer way to safeguard your car since it doesn't require the use of keys or remote control.
Ghost also comes with a service mode that can be turned on via the mobile application. This allows you to give your keys to someone else to use for valet Ghost 2 immobiliser parking or service, without the need to enter the disarm sequence.
No matter if your Ghost is in service mode or not you should never attempt to remove the system on your own because it could affect your engine and cause damage. It is recommended to speak with a TASSA-verified installer who can safely and properly remove the system. Our most recent GHOST II immobilisers come with a special QR fingerprint sticker that is hidden in different areas of your vehicle, these are linked to our international security register - in the event the system is removed and is sold on the black market, this will link it back to its original owner.
Anti-Hijack
Ghost Immobiliser 2 has a very useful anti-hijack feature. This is a sophisticated key that protects your car from thieves. The Ghost system will automatically turn on the hazard light and stall the car's engine when the ignition is on and the vehicle is stationary. This allows the driver or passenger time to press a secret security button (depending on the vehicle) before the system reactivates and the engine is once again allowed to begin.
The Ghost system, unlike other competitors, utilizes an electronic timer and controller that will close the valve that shuts off fuel after a predetermined time. This is regardless of whether the ignition is on. This delay time period needs to be long enough to allow the hijacked owner of the vehicle to drive away from the site of the incident and to maintain a sufficient distance from the vehicle that is stalled before the system can reactivate.
The Ghost has an additional layer of security that blocks common hacking methods used to gain entry to modern cars, such as relay attacks and key range expanding. This is due to the fact that the Ghost system is completely silent and doesn't emit any signals that can be detected by a thief using code grabbing or RF scanning technology.
The Ghost system comes with an option for service or valet mode that allows your car to be re-started and driven, without the need for a PIN code. This is a great option if you park your car and only need to leave it for a brief time for a few minutes, like to open the garage door or place groceries in the boot. The system will be able to exit service mode depending on the speed and time or through the simple PIN code entry process that gives you total security knowing that only YOU are able to utilize your vehicle!
Keyless Entry
Many customers are now seeking out additional security measures due to the growing trend of thefts from cars using contactless. This is especially true for those who have put time or money into personalising their vehicles and own expensive or rare vehicles. Immobilisers that are added to your vehicle can be a good method to stop this type of theft since they prevent your vehicle from starting until the correct pin code is entered along with your key fob.
Immobilisers are designed to intercept the various circuits in a vehicle such as those that control the starter motor and fuel pump. They can also disable the alarm for cars in order to attract attention and deter potential thieves.
These devices communicate with the engine control unit (ECU) via the CAN data circuit, and they stop thieves from trying to get around it by installing a new ECU or using the key programmer. These immobilisers are put in place in a discreet manner and leave no trace on your vehicle. They are also not detected by hi-tech thieves' tools.
As opposed to other systems that require a specific app, or a tag that is worn on the person carrying it the Ghost immobiliser can only be disarmed by pressing a series of existing electronic buttons on your steering wheel, door panel, and the centre console, which allows you to choose a custom pin sequence. The pin can easily be changed and makes the device as secure as a credit card. It can also be more difficult to crack since it requires as many as 20 presses.
Ghost also has the option of a valet/service mode that allows you to disable the system if your vehicle will be handed over for valet parking or services which allows it to work within certain guidelines, such as a 30mph speed limit, so you don't have to worry about your vehicle being driven in reckless manner. The system can be reactivated with the original key or entry code.
Installed by our reputable installers, it is the most secure and reliable aftermarket CAN-immobiliser that is available. It is also fully accepted by Thatcham for insurance purposes. The Ghost 2 immobiliser comes with six QR fingerprint labels, as well as an ISR contact cards containing the unique QR codes and an emergency code that is safe. All of these are kept in your wallet or purse.
